Golda Meir was ai teacher, kibbutznik, stateswoman, politician and the fourth Prime Minister of Israel. Meir was elected Prime Minister of Israel on March 17, 1969, after serving as Minister of Labour and Foreign Minister. Golda was also the first woman prime minister in Israel.

Achievements

Golda was the first ever woman to be elected the Prime Minister of Israel.Though she remained an important political figure, Golda Meir retired for good and published her autobiography, My Life, in 1975. On December 8, 1978, Meir died in Jerusalem at the age of 80. It was revealed that she suffered from leukemia while she was leading the country.
